Blackened Shrimp Bowl

I was a lucky girl, as my son made this one for us. He followed the instructions to a tee, only subbing Jasmine rice for brown rice. We had one cob of corn left over from the other night's supper, so it was not fire-roasted, but it was fresh off the cob. Overall, we voted this bowl was too plain. We would prefer a sauce on the rice or seasoning/flavour. The shrimp was okay, but could be much spicier (hot) or flavourful. In the two photos you can see ours was not "blackened", but I think ours would have simply burnt if we did it that way and not tasted great. The red pepper and corn were a tasty addition however, I would add more toppings next time, maybe black beans? The idea was solid, and with additional spice or toppings it would be a winner.
